Just the Jist

Hello and happy Monday peeps! I hope everyone had a great weekend.

My grandparents visited this weekend as well as some Vestavia chicas. Gotta love a weekend full of visitors, am I right?

Sophie loves visitors so she had a great weekend, too.

Well, minus her kitchen sink bath…

😉

Last week Madre and I gave my house a little freshening up. Nothing too drastic, just some organizing in the kitchen and my closet.

Organizing is one of my talents. I don’t have very many but I can clean and organize like a beast. Since I could probably talk for days about every nook and cranny that I have organized in my house, I’ll spare you the boredom and give you just the jist of things.

Starting with my kitchen shelves…

IMG_5959

There isn’t a whole lot of cabinet space in my kitchen so we purchased this adjustable shelf at Home Depot for only around $100.

IMG_5964

At the very top of the shelf I keep my reusable shopping bags in that black bin which is on top of a wooden pizza serving piece. The two wicker baskets just below hold plastic baggies and then dog treats for Soph. Beside those I keep my colored baking ramekins, bowls, and then a salad bowl with napkins.

IMG_5960

Next, I have all of my serving ware, most of which came from Old Time Pottery. Hello money saving! At Lowes we had a piece of plywood cut to lay on this shelf so I could add a shelf riser for ample space saving.

IMG_5966

Just below all of my plates and things I have flours, nuts, quinoa, and a couple of other stuff stored in canisters from Target. Next to those is an empty wicker basket for one of my roommates to keep their pantry items. Then, last on the shelf is a fruit/veggie basket where I keep sweet potatoes, garlic, tomatoes, and other things of the like.

IMG_5963

Moving on to the last two shelves, I have three more wicker baskets for my roomies and me to keep our pantry goodies in and then my large pot, dutch oven, panini press/grill/griddle (<— amazing apliance), and then coozies for those cold drinks. Heh heh.

Having an exposed shelf like this in my kitchen freed up a TON of space in the cabinets and drawers. Perfect for when I acquire more kitchenware. 😉

Ok. Now for my closet!

IMG_5985

I know…I have way too many clothes.

IMG_5977 IMG_5976

As soon as you walk in to the right I have a hanging shelf for tees, workout/lounge pants, shorts, and sweater. Next to that I keep all of my long skirts and dresses. On the wall I have most of my costume jewelry and then room for hats and such just above that.

IMG_5974 IMG_5975

Starting with the first picture, I have most of my nicer shirts, long sweaters, jackets, and tanks hanging. I have everything in order according to sleeve length and then color. The next shelf has skirts and dresses, also organized based on style and sleeve length. Then on the end I have my belts on a belt/tie hanger from Target.

I’m in the processing of switching all of my hangers over to black velvet hangers vs. plastic. The velvet helps prevent things from sliding off. I scored most of my hangers from Ross for waaay cheaper than Target or Bed Bath & Beyond. Marshall’s and Hobby Lobby should have the velvet hangers at a good price also, I’m sure.

IMG_5981

Please excuse my laziness and clothes waiting to be put away on the floor.

Underneath my hanging clothes I have my SHOES! My mom just redid her closet and was going to get rid of these shoe cubbies until I got ahold of them. Score. They work perfectly for storing all of my shoes as well as shoe bags, gloves, and small jewelry boxes for my nicer pieces.

In the bottom right-hand corner of the picture I have all of my pullovers and heavier jackets in a box underneath my bags and purses that are in a wicker basket from Pottery Barn.

Just above my shoe cubbies I have a basket full of workout DVDs and other gear. To the left of that I have a set of adjustable dumbbells and then two smaller wicker baskets, also from Pottery Barn, that store my sunglasses and cords and etc. for all of my cameras and electronics.

And now for my favorite part thus far…

IMG_5978

…my jewelry cork boards! Having the rest of my jewelry displayed on cork boards makes it loads easier to keep things from getting messy. Also, I can see everything a lot better when it’s out like this so I wear more and don’t forget about pieces.

IMG_5983

Lastly, I keep boxes with winter boots on top of my shelf. Along with my suitcase and ClosetMaid bins that store socks, swim suits, running shorts, and hats. Anything else that’s out of season (scarves, other sweaters, turtle necks, etc.) I keep in boxes underneath my bed. T shirts, PJs, and other random things I have in a dresser in my room.

Wellllll, that’s all folks. If you have any questions please ask!

I’m off to get the day started, hopefully with a nice run and some baking. 😛

Thursday Things – What I’m Loving Lately

Hello there friends!

The past couple of days have been non-stop. My mom stayed in Tuscaloosa with me after the Bayou Country Superfest to help tackle a few household projects. Together we successfully conquered organizing the kitchen and my closet which may not sound like very much but trust me, it was quite a task. More on that later though.

Breakfast

IMG_5950

This morning I had toast with PB and Sunflower butter, banana slices, and coconut sprinkles. Always a delicious combo. Notice my new mug! Very Louisiana, eh?

Since I totally lost track of time yesterday and missed my scheduled Wednesday Words {of wisdom} post I’m going to fill you in on a few things that I’ve been loving lately.

Thursday Things – What I’m Loving Lately

1. Fresh herbs! Yesterday afternoon I planted sweet basil, rosemary, and mint as well as a grape tomato plant that’s peeking out in the corner. I’m stoked about being able to walk a outside of my porch for herbs and toms instead of having to drive to the store.

IMG_5943

2. WATERMELON! I recently cut up a big ole watermelon to snack on throughout the week and I just can’t get enough. Holy yum!

IMG_5938

3. Keeping the theme of summer produce, strawberries are a given. I’ve been stocking up on these babies at the farmer’s market while they’re cheap and then freezing them to have when season is over. Come winter I’ll still be enjoying them. Score!

_MG_5892

4. Tomato, squash, broccoli. All from my farmer’s market bounty. Talk about the perfect salad.

IMG_5927

Topped with a veggie burger, Pop Chips, and goat cheese of course. 😉

IMG_5930

5. I came across B&J’s Greek froyo while grocery shopping the other day and finally bit the bullet and bought the stuff. Let me just tell you, SO GOOD! Honestly, I’m having a hard time deciding if it’s better then their ice cream. Suppose I’ll just have to pick up a pint of Half Baked and compare the two. 😉

IMG_5932

6. And obviously I’ve been loving Sophie lately always. 😀

Hope your Thursday is off to a great start! I’ll catch ya later!

Weight Off My Shoulders

Good afternoon!

A big thank you to everyone who reached out to me after my Peachy Post. I can’t even begin to explain how much it meant to me so thank pfizer viagra no prescription you again.

Lately, I’ve been struggling to get out of bed before 9:30 AM and quite frankly it’s still a struggle then. I used to be up and at ’em around 7:30-8:00 AM which was awesome because I got a lot more out of the day. Anyways, I’m trying to get back into the habit so I’ve been luring myself out of the bed earlier by reminding myself that Bobby Flay comes on at 8:00 AM. Oh, and with a balling breakfast.

Breakfast

IMG_5524 IMG_5523

Greek yogurt + Kashi GoLean Crunch + Bare Fit granola + diced pear + PB

Breakfast included a juicy pear yesterday instead of my usual berry/banana combo and I must say, it was a pleasant change. However, I am SO looking forward to fresh strawberries this summer! There really is nothing better than a perfectly ripe and seasonal strawberry. Mmm!

Workout

IMG_5514 IMG_5511

Pictures are actually not from my backyard but from my run at Goose Pond on Tuesday

Since I’m back in the ‘Boro and far far away from my beloved CrossFit box, I pulled out my old workout notebook and found my Back Yard Butt Kick. Considering yesterday was such a pretty day, I couldn’t think of a better workout.

Lunch

After finishing my butt kick, I worked up quite an appetite so I headed inside to see what I could rummage up for lunch.

IMG_5528

Amy’s Cheddar Cheese burrito

My parents aren’t the best per say when it comes to keeping the fridge and pantry stocked. Although I was proud to see they had a bowl of fresh fruit in the refrigerator. Sooo, I grabbed an orange and paired it with an Amy’s burrito that I dug out of the freezer and called it lunch.

IMG_5533

Orange + burrito with salsa and plain Cho

A generous serving of salsa and a dollop of Chobani (forget Daisy) on my burrito and I had one deeelicious meal.

Snacks

The better half of my day yesterday was spent studying for my AFAA practical exam which was scheduled for 7:30 PM. Of course, I needed some snacks to keep me full and focused. 😉

IMG_5534

Snack number one was the remnants from a bag of BBQ Pop Chips.

IMG_5536

A little while later I sliced up an apple to hold me over before dinner.

Dinner

IMG_5542 IMG_5543

Baby spinach + tomato (from the Farmer’s Market!) + mushroom rice burger + Wickle’s relish + goat cheese + rosemary crackers + balsamic vinaigrette

Dinner hit the spot! I gave the spinach and tomato a spin in the microwave so the spinach got all wilted and it was just spot on with everything else.

*Side note* Tomatoes contain the antioxidant lycopene which is released during the cooking process so, believe it or not, they actually get more nutritious with heating!

Other Things of the Day

After dinner, I rushed downstairs and got my Macbook all set up for my personal fitness training practical exam. Let me just tell ya, I was so nervous! Originally I was suppose to take my practical on Tuesday but I ended up being late — it’s a video chat practical, heh — because I got confused with the time zones.

However, my awesome proctor let me retake the exam last night annnd I passed! Woohoo! Talk about a huge weight off my shoulders (ha ha weights, personal training, get it? anyways…). Now I just have tackle a 120 question multiple choice exam and then, ladies and gentlemen, I will be a certified personal trainer!

*Side note* I feel like juuust about 90% (maybe even more?) of my posts are food focused because well, it’s kinda easy to post a *somewhat* good looking picture of a meal and then talk about it. Ha, or maybe it’s just me. Getting to the point, “Other Things of the Day” sounds like a good daily topic. Whatcha think?

Sophie

IMG_5091

I mean, I know it probably won’t be as good — or cute for that matter — as the “Sophie” topic but it could work. 😉

Summing Up Monday

Goooooood evening.

Monday was a great day around these parts and kicked the week off on the right note. Starting with breakfast, of course. 😀

Breakfast

IMG_5444Greek yogurt + how to buy viagra in canada banana slices + blueberries + Kashi GoLean Crunch + the last of my Love Grown granola *tear*

Yogurt bowl and coffee. Always a great choice.

Shortly after breakfast I made my way out the door for some grocery shopping. I didn’t take any pictures of the load I brought home but I did take a few of my fridge. Just ’cause.

IMG_5451

It’s not the best photo but whatever. Maybe I’ll conjure up a post about my fridge/pantry/etc. one of these days.

Once all my grocery goodies were put away in their place, I got started on lunch.

Lunch

IMG_5463Spring mix + grape toms + shredded carrot + wild rice & quinoa + feta + turkey burger + balsamic vinegar

The combo of feta + wild rice & quinoa + balsamic is just out of this world. Really.

IMG_5459

Then the turkey burger sneaks into the flavor combination and there are no words.

IMG_5461

I seasoned my Jennie-O turkey burger with Emeril’s Southwest Spice.

IMG_5446

By the way, if you don’t already own a rice cooker I highly recommend you change that. These babies makes cooking rice a breeze.

IMG_5466

Yum 🙂

Snack

IMG_5472Kiwi + pineapple + strawberries + Bare Fit granola

Mid-afternoon I took a snack break from studying for finals and had some fruit and granola. While grocery shopping, I picked up some more “indulgent” granola since I finished off the bag of Love Grown for breakfast. This one is Bare Fit’s Maple Pecan and I have to admit, Love Grown better watch out because this stuff is bomb.

Workout

photo

The goal for yesterday’s run was 5 miles and I ended up exceeding that by a 1.3 miles so that was nice. Running has been my jam lately. Seriously it’s weirding me out considering I’ve opted for runs instead of hitting up a WOD at CrossFit. Can’t say that I’m complaining though, the weather just keeps calling me outside!

After my run I did some foam rolling while Sophie licked the saltiness from sweating off of me. Thank you for that Soph.

Dinner

IMG_5481Kale + broccoli + veggie burger + Sweet Thai Chili pop chips + goat cheese + sriracha + balsamic reduction

For dinner I had a crap ton of kale. Honestly, you would have been in awe if you saw the monstrosity before I wilted it down in some veggie broth. The pop chips ended up getting soggy since this was a “hot meal” so I think I’ll give them another go in a salad.

IMG_5469

This dog is so cute sometimes I can hardly stand it. She got a bath last night, too, so she’s looking and smelling extra fresh. 😉

Dessert

IMG_5486 IMG_5485Almond butter + dark chocolate + Kashi GoLean Crunch

This nearly empty jar of almond butter has been sitting in the cabinet for a while now just waiting for an opportunity to be polished off. Well, last night was the night. I melted in some dark chocolate and added Kashi for crunch. Perfect little dessert.

That sums up my Monday. I hope your week is coming along nicely!

M&M Telephones

Heeey.

Let’s pretend it’s Friday right now since I totally cheapest viagra canada forgot to post about Thursday happenings last night. 😐

(If that sounds really confusing, I apologize.)

Breakfast

IMG_4941

IMG_4943

Muesli + Kashi Simply Maize + Publix GreenWise cheerios + blueberries & strawberries + PB2 + unsweetened coconut flakes + unsweetened almondmilk

Annnnnnnnnnnnnd…

IMG_4945

Coffee in muh V mug from Pottery Barn. Please note this mug’s perfect handle.

After breakfast I headed off to the Student Health Center for a doctor’s appointment. While I was sitting in the waiting room I noticed this M&M candy jar.

photo-34

Immediately, I thought back to my very first telephone I received as a Christmas gift forever ago…

mm2-a

Every time it rang the M&M characters would move and start arguing about who was going to pick up the phone. I loved it.

Lunch

IMG_4954IMG_4955

Subway chopped chicken salad w/ all the fixins (minus black olives and jalapeños) & sweet onion sauce + slice Ezekiel + goat cheese + balsamic reduction + ground pepper

As soon as I got out of the doctor’s office I hightailed it to Subway. Since I had plans of coming home, there was virtually nothing left in my fridge which gave me a great excuse to pick up a Subway chopped salad. Ohmigawd, I love me some chopped salads. Yuuum.

Those last three ingredients have been showing up in my pictures a ridiculous amount lately. They just go so well with everything! Can’t. Help. It.

Once lunch was scarfed down and my bags were packed, Sophie and I were homeward bound. photo-38

She rode in my lap the entiiire ride home and an enjoyable ride it was. Thanks to new roads, not getting lost, and Shaggy.

photo-7

Perfect song for a Thursday. #tbt anyone?

photo-36

Home atlas!

Snack

photo-39

Sliced nanner + soy nut butter + Biscoff + fig preserves

The second I walked inside I went straight for the pantry and fridge. Partly due to my rumbling belly and the other part due to the curiosity of how my parents survive without me. Survive they do. How? I have no idea but if I had to guess I’d say frozen meals, eating out, and beer.

Sigh. I still love them.

Dinner

IMG_4961

For dinner I was craving some sushi rolls so we called in our order to Tokyo — a local Japanese restaurant that is sketchy as hell but so so good — and then Dad picked it up.

IMG_4959

Cucumber roll

IMG_4960

Sweet potato roll

These hardly constitute as sushi rolls based on their lack of fresh fish but, again, “sketchy as hell” isn’t very promising in the raw fish department. Nevertheless, our takeout was delicious and I highly recommend the sweet potato roll. My my mom and I couldn’t stop complimenting how good it was.

photo-40

Shortly after dinner I headed up to the most comfortable bed on the face of the planet (my bed, duh) and cozied up with a good book. Side note: all of Ellen Hopkins’ books are great reads. Intense? Yes. But still, great.

Hope your Thursday was as pleasant as mine and even higher hopes you’re having a great weekend!

Until next post, deuces.
